2012 Ride For America

For 2012 we have selected the Patriot Paws Service Dogs Program to donate and raise money for their program.  Please see the next tab for the history and the information about this program.

Our 2012 Ride For America Run will be down the old route 66 highway.  We will stop at several attractions and will also have some hotels setup for special rates for the ride down. We are still in the planning stage for the route and attraction and stops.  This will be put out within the next month.  We will also have camp grounds and hotels in Sedona, Arizona which will be our main and last stop.  You NEVER know we may keep going. Last year we went to Las Vegas, Nevada and seen another veteran who was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma on her spine.  She has lost the use of her legs and she is only 27 years old.  She was my battle buddy in the army in 2004.

We will be starting in Yukon, OK on old route 66. The route will be put out soon and the hotels for us to start making our reservations.  The camping around Sedona is beautiful and the temperature was awesome. Now Vegas was another story on temperature. LOL!

We will have setup different rally points from people coming from all over.  We will put up a day and a address/place to meet at for new riders to catch up or ride along.  We encourage you to bring your family and make a vacation of it and you are more than welcome to ride or drive. WE DON'T CARE. just come join us. Last year we had a awesome ride.  We would love to have you and have you every year to come after next.

Please contact me with any questions and/or ideas or sponsors at hannibal@bikersrideforamerica.com....

Ride Safe and hope to see you soon.  Our ride will begin June 16-29. You don't have to go the entire way or you can just meet us there. We always find cool stuff to do and it's for a great cause and a great way to get out and enjoy life and help the community and your veterans.

Remember the dates: June 16-28, 2012.  You can ride all the way or meet us at a rally point.

Support

Patriot PAWS is a 501 (c) (3) organization and is committed to providing service dogs of the highest quality at minimum cost. It takes 12 to 18 months to properly train just one service dog, and the cost of care and training for a single service dog during the training period is approximately $20-$30,000. There are no charges for those selected to receive the dogs. Only through donations (tax deductible) and volunteers are we able to provide these dogs to disabled veterans in need. Donate now to Patriot PAWS!

Patriot PAWS Service Dogs organization was officially designated as a 501 (c) (3) organization in February 2006 and is a certified member of Assistance Dogs International (ADI). The founder of Patriot PAWS, Lori Stevens, is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT), Karen Pryor Academy (KPA) graduate with over 20-years experience. Lori has worked and volunteered for several dog-training organizations, including Lone Star Assistance Dog Service and Texas Hearing and Service Dogs. While she found this work rewarding, her true passion is training service dogs to assist disabled American Veterans.

Patriot PAWS trains service dogs to perform various behaviors including help for patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Patriot PAWS primary goal is to increase an individual’s self-sufficiency. Services performed by each dog depend on the needs of the owner. The following are a list of some services provided to assist disabled veterans in accomplishing daily tasks that would otherwise be difficult or impossible:

  • Get help in emergencies
  • Recognize and avert PTSD episodes
  • Pick up and retrieve items
  • Open and close doors
  • Pull wheelchairs
  • Provide bracing to stand, walk, and sit down
  • Help with chores, such as laundry
  • Take off shoes and socks

Patriot PAWS’ continued commitment is to work with the matched veterans and dogs as they learn to work together as a team.
